The Biblical Case For Giants Occupying The Covenant Land
By Gary Wayne – Author of The Genesis 6 Conspiracy
“There were giants in the earth in those days; and also after that, when the sons of God came in unto the daughters of men, and they bare children to them, the same became mighty men which were of old, men of renown.” Genesis 6:4 (King James Version / KJV)
“Giant” in the KJV of Genesis 6 and Numbers 13:33, two times, derives from the Hebrew “Nephiyl” (Strong’s Concordance h5303) meaning giant, Nephilim. The suffix,“im” is the male plural form many translations use.
“…we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Numbers 13:33 KJV
Standard Christian dogma taught dismisses the existence of Nephilim in Genesis 6, and their connections to Rephaim after the flood and the Exodus. “Rephaim” were first recorded in Genesis 14’s war against giants. Rephaim is the male plural form of the Hebrew “Rapha” (Strong’s h7497) meaning giant, a tribe of giants. Giants illegally squatted in the Covenant Land previous to Abraham settling there, as witnessed by Genesis 14’s war against giants of the greater Covenant Land.
“And in the fourteenth year came Chedorlaomer, and the kings that were with him, and smote the Rephaims in Ashteroth Karnaim, and the Zuzims in Ham, and the Emims in Shaveh Kiriathaim, and the Horites in their mount Seir, unto Elparan, which is by the wilderness. And they returned, and came to Enmishpat, which is Kadesh, and smote all the country of the Amalekites” Genesis 14:5-7 KJV
Rephaim squatted lands east of the Jordan in Ashateroth, Ammon, and Moab; west in Sodom, Gomorrah, Hebron/ Kiriath Arba; and south to Edom and Seir. The Zuzim, Emim, Horim, Amalaqim, Anakim, Zamzummin, and Avvim of Genesis 14 and Deuteronomy 2 were some of the giant tribes of the Middle East. “Giant” in Deuteronomy 2, and all cases but 3 in the Old Testament KJV Bible derives from “Rapha” (Strongs h7497).
“That also was accounted a land of giants: giants dwelt therein in old-time; and the Ammonites call them Zamzummims. A people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; but the LORD destroyed them before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead: As he did to the children of Esau, which dwelt in Seir, when he destroyed the Horims from before them; and they succeeded them, and dwelt in their stead even unto this day: And the Avims which dwelt in Hazerim, even unto Azzah, the Caphtorims, which came forth” Deuteronomy 2:20-23 KJV
Post-diluvian (Post-flood) giant nations like Anakim were Rephaim branches. God drove some of these out from parts of His land for Ammonites, Edomites and Moabites.
“The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. The Horims also dwelt in Seir before time; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead” Deuteronomy 2:10-12 KJV
Rephaim tribes interbred with Canaan’s sons and their posterity, to create hybrid Rephaim nations in the greater Covenant Land region that Rephaim reigned over.
“And the border of the Canaanites was from Sidon, as thou comest to Gerar, unto Gaza; as thou goest, unto Sodom, and Gomorrah, and Admah, and Zeboim, even unto Lasha.” Genesis 10:19 KJV
Sidon, Heth, their posterity, and Canaan interbred with Rephaim producing hybrids: Jubusites, Amorites, Hivites, Arkites, Sinites, Arvadites, Zemarites, and Hamathites. Genesis 10 states Canaan begat Heth, Sidon, and the rest of the peoples listed with them. Strong’s Concordance describes the “peoples” using limited Canaanite associations and vague descriptions. Only Heth and Sidon are said to be sons. Genesis 10 describes the “peoples” as Canaanite families. Family is “mishpachah” in Hebrew (Strong’s h4490) meaning circle of relatives, and/ or a class, species or kind of people, as opposed to direct pure posterity; hence, a hybrid class/ species of Canaanites and Rephaim:
Jebusite: Jebus/ Jerusalem inhabitant; Amorite: mountain-dwellers; Girgahsite: native Canaanite tribe of uncertain derivation; Hivites: aboriginal tribe of Palestine; Arkite: Erek inhabitant; Sinites: tribe of one of the sons of Canaan; Arvadites: Arvad inhabitant; Zemarites: Tsmarayim inhabitant; Hamathites: native of Chamath.
“And Canaan begat Sidon his firstborn, and Heth.” Genesis 10:15 KJV
“And the Jebusite, and the Amorite, and the Girgasite, And the Hivite, and the Arkite, and the Sinite, And the Arvadite, and the Zemarite, and the Hamathite: and afterward were the families of the Canaanites spread abroad.” Genesis 10:16-18 KJV
Thus Amorites and other Canaanite hybrid Rephaim nations were attacked in Genesis 14’s giant war in Abraham’s time, which included the region of Sodom.
“And also the Amorites, that dwelt in Hazezontamar. And there went out the king of Sodom, and the king of Gomorrah, and the king of Admah, and the king of Zeboiim, and the king of Bela (the same is Zoar;) and they joined battle with them in the vale of Siddim.” Genesis 14:7-8 KJV
“Yet destroyed I the Amorite before them, whose height was like the height of the cedars, and he was strong as the oaks.” Amos 2:9 KJV
This then was the Exodus scenario scouts encountered when Moses sent them to explore the Covenant Land: the land of milk and honey promised by God to Israel, but a land still overflowing with Rephaim, and Rephaim/ human hybrids.
“But I have said unto you, Ye shall inherit their land, and I will give it unto you to possess it, a land that floweth with milk and honey: I am the LORD your God, which have separated you from other people.” Leviticus 20:24 KJV
Giants squatted previous to Abraham, positioning strategically for the not yet formed Israel nation; patiently waiting to ambush the future nation of hope. This should not have been a surprise for the scouts or any of the Israelites. God forewarned Israel regarding those powerful nations. Amongst these nations were other people not recorded in the Canaanite nations of Genesis 10 created from Rephaim/ Canaanite intermarriage that included Perizzites.
“…Ye have troubled me to make me to stink among the inhabitants of the land, among the Canaanites and the Perizzites.” Genesis 34:30 KJV
Perizzites, Hebrew “Perizziy,” (Strong’s H6522) meaning a people of rural, unwalled villages in the open regions is yet another vaguely described Canaanite/ Rephaim hybrid or Rephaim nation.
“And I am come down to deliver them out of the hand of the Egyptians, and to bring them up out of that land unto a good land and a large, unto a land flowing with milk and honey; unto the place of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites.” Exodus 3:8 KJV
“And I have said, I will bring you up out of the affliction of Egypt unto the land of the Canaanites, and the Hittites, and the Amorites, and the Perizzites, and the Hivites, and the Jebusites, unto a land flowing with milk and honey.” Exodus 3:17 KJV
Perrizites were also seemingly akin to other unaccounted for nations (Genesis 10 & 1 Chronicles) squatting God’s land: Rephaim, Kenites, Kenizzites, Kadmonites.
“In the same day the LORD made a covenant with Abram, saying, Unto thy seed have I given this land, from the river of Egypt unto the great river, the river Euphrates: The Kenites, and the Kenizzites, and the Kadmonites, And the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Rephaims, And the Amorites, and the Canaanites, and the Girgashites, and the Jebusites.” Genesis 15:18-21 KJV
God forewarned Israel to all the powerful military nations in the Covenant Land, promising to send His angel to drive out Rephaim and Rephaim hybrid nations. And, God previously drove out Rephaim from Ammon, Moab, Edom, and Caphtor (Deuteronomy 2:10-23). One presumes Israel was aware and assured of this via Moses.
“For mine Angel shall go before thee, and bring thee in unto the Amorites, and the Hittites, and the Perizzites, and the Canaanites, the Hivites, and the Jebusites: and I will cut them off.” Exodus 23:23 KJV
The scouts Moses sent to explore the Covenant Land found a land filled with milk and honey, a land filled with tall warriors, and the children of Anakim; Rephaim.
“And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt). And they came unto the brook of Eshcol, and cut down from thence a branch with one cluster of grapes, and they bare it between two upon a staff; and they brought of the pomegranates, and of the figs.” Numbers 13:22-23 KJV
Hebron was built before Zoan, Hebrew “Tsoan” (Strong’s h6814): Tanis an Egyptian city. Strong’s notes Tanis was built before Abraham. Historians cite the “Year 400 Stela” to 1300-1400 B.C. dating Hebron to 17000-1800 B.C. or beyond. Kiriatharba was the name before Hebron. Arba was the father of the Anakim branch of Rephaim, and descendants of Nephilim. Arba seems to have founded Hebron.
“And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims.” Joshua 14:15 KJV
“And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.” Joshua 15:13 KJV
Anak, Hebrew “Anaq” (Strong’s h6061) means: neck [long] a tribe of giants in Cananaan. Anakim, Hebrew “Anaqiy” (Strong’s h6062) means: long-necked Canaanite tribe of giants is rooted in “Anaq” (Strong’s h6061). Loyal scouts reported the land of milk and honey was occupied by Anakim of Kiriatharba, and other powerful militaristic giant hybrid offspring nations.
“…We came unto the land whither thou sentest us, and surely it floweth with milk and honey; and this is the fruit of it.Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there. The Amalekites dwell in the land of the south: and the Hittites, and the Jebusites, and the Amorites, dwell in the mountains: and the Canaanites dwell by the sea, and by the coast of Jordan.” Numbers 13:27-29 KJV
Even though God forewarned Israel about these nations, promising He would send his angel to drive out the reprobate nations, as He did for Ammon, Moab, and Edom, the giant monsters incited fear into many of the scouts. Frightened scouts did not deny they saw men of great stature or descendants of Anak, but confirmed those details listed previous in Numbers 13:21-23 and 13:27-29.
“And Caleb stilled the people before Moses, and said, Let us go up at once, and possess it; for we are well able to overcome it.” But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we… And there we saw the giants, the sons of Anak, which come of the giants: and we were in our own sight as grasshoppers, and so we were in their sight.” Numbers 13:30, 31 & 33 KJV
What the frightened scouts did was to use the scary details within their “evil report,” to strike fear into Israel, to challenge God’s power, and to call God a liar. The 1st deception was they rejected God’s promise that He would send His angel to drive out the giants as He had done previously with other peoples, and/ or God’s angel was not strong enough to defeat the giants, hybrid nations, and their gods. The 2nd deception by implication was God lied about His ability to protect Israel. The 3rd deception was the land devours people, and thus was not good for Israel, challenging God’s promise of good things for Israel in the Land (Numbers 10).
“But the men that went up with him said, We be not able to go up against the people; for they are stronger than we. And they brought up an evil report of the land which they had searched unto the children of Israel, saying, The land, through which we have gone to search it, is a land that eateth up the inhabitants thereof; and all the people that we saw in it are men of a great stature.” Numbers 13:31-32 KJV
“And Moses said unto Hobab, the son of Raguel the Midianite, Moses’ father in law, We are journeying unto the place of which the LORD said, I will give it you: come thou with us, and we will do thee good: for the LORD hath spoken good concerning Israel.” Numbers 10:29 KJV
The “evil report” deceptions caused many to doubt God, saying He brought them from Egypt to die; that they should choose a new leader to take them back to Egypt. Israel did not believe God, His promises, His Covenant with them or Abraham, or in what God had already done for them; they believed the frightened scouts.
“And all the children of Israel murmured against Moses and against Aaron: and the whole congregation said unto them, Would God that we had died in the land of Egypt! or would God we had died in this wilderness! And wherefore hath the LORD brought us unto this land, to fall by the sword, that our wives and our children should be a prey? were it not better for us to return into Egypt? And they said one to another, Let us make a captain, and let us return into Egypt.” Numbers 14:2-4 KJV
Joshua/ Hoshea (Numbers 13:8 & 16) and Caleb, then interceded speaking against parts of the “evil report” saying the land was good and to have faith in God. Joshua and Caleb argued not to rebel against God by refusing to enter the land. But Israel accepted the arguments from the “evil report,” fearing giants would slaughter them.
“And Joshua the son of Nun, and Caleb the son of Jephunneh, which were of them that searched the land, rent their clothes: And they spake unto all the company of the children of Israel, saying, The land, which we passed through to search it, is an exceeding good land. If the LORD delight in us, then he will bring us into this land, and give it us; a land which floweth with milk and honey. Only rebel not ye against the LORD, neither fear ye the people of the land; for they are bread for us: their defence is departed from them, and the LORD is with us: fear them not. But all the congregation bade stone them with stones.” Numbers 14:6-10 KJV
The “evil report” did not deny Anakim or the reality of giants, but was used to incite sedition and fear to rebel against God.Hence, one cannot dismiss the veracity of giants utilizing Numbers 13:31-33, unless previous verses are ignored, as well as all the other OT passages describing giants. And, the “evil report” used to deny the veracity giants is debunked later in Deuteronomy 1 by God, when He reminds Israel of the evil report when they did not “believe God.” God re-affirmed the scouts brought evidence of fruits of the land. God confirmed Israel rebelled against Him and refused to enter into the land of milk and honey.
God confirmed that Israel rejected God would fight for them against the giant nations. God confirmed Israel was afraid of the Amorite hybrids with cities protected by great walls, and who were “greater and taller” than Israel. God confirmed the sons of Anakim dwelled there; Sheshai, Ahiman, and Talmai.
“And the saying pleased me well: and I took twelve men of you, one of a tribe: And they turned and went up into the mountain, and came unto the valley of Eshcol, and searched it out. And they took of the fruit of the land in their hands, and brought it down unto us, and brought us word again, and said, It is a good land which the LORD our God doth give us. Notwithstanding ye would not go up, but rebelled against the commandment of the LORD your God: And ye murmured in your tents, and said, Because the LORD hated us, he hath brought us forth out of the land of Egypt, to deliver us into the hand of the Amorites, to destroy us. Whither shall we go up? our brethren have discouraged our heart, saying, The people is greater and taller than we; the cities are great and walled up to heaven; and moreover we have seen the sons of the Anakims there. Then I said unto you, Dread not, neither be afraid of them. The LORD your God which goeth before you, he shall fight for you, according to all that he did for you in Egypt before your eyes. Yet in this thing ye did not believe the LORD your God” Deuteronomy 1:23-1:32 KJV
Much later, Judah battled Canaanites in Hebron where they slew Sheshai, Ahiman and Talmai testifying to the veracity of the first report, and that “the evil report” did not deny the existence of giants, but was designed to cause rebellion against God.
“And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.” Judges 1:10 KJV
