1915 Report: “Skeleton of a Horned Man” Discovered Near AZ Cave

By Derek Olson

I found the following 1915 article from searching through the digital archives of Library of Congress. Linked below is original article and screen shots of the actual newspaper and article.

The Snowflake Herald / Snowflake, Arizona / December 24, 1915

My thoughts : being that these guys were out hauling wood near “Whiteriver” for an Indian agency – I did a quick map search and found an unincorporated community known as Whiteriver about 3 hours east of Phoenix. It is located between Mount Baldy and the Apache reservation. So it looks like this matches the area mentioned in the newspaper.

Whiteriver unincorporated near Mt Baldy

The newspaper states that the specimen was found near the White river and close to a large cave…

Q Did this horned man or humanoid live inside the cave?

Mt Baldy wilderness

The article states that the specimen was “3 feet tall with well defined horns about 2 inches long near the temples.” If this isn’t descriptive enough, it goes onto say “it was of a fully developed man…” If we are to believe the eye-witness accounts, we can eliminate the idea that this was some sort of animal.

Q I wonder though how old the skeleton appeared upon discovery? Did it look like it had died recently or was it truly ancient?

Q At 3 ft tall and with 2 inch horns, could this have been some sort of ancient hybrid or might there have been a chimeric connection to the reservation nearby? Leave a comment below
