An Investigative Series Regarding the Origin of Giants

Read Part II

The Wilderness War at Athariym, the King of Arad, the Inhabitants of Shur, & Telmai’s Heraldry

By Gary Wayne – Author of The Genesis 6 Conspiracy

“And they removed from Kadesh, and pitched in mount Hor, in the edge of the land of Edom. And Aaron the priest went up into mount Hor at the commandment of the LORD, and died there, in the fortieth year after the children of Israel were come out of the land of Egypt, in the first day of the fifth month.” Numbers 33:37-38

After Israel departed Kadesh and the water from the rock miracle at Meribah, Israel began their commission to take the Covenant Land from giants, on the 1st day of the 5th month of the 40th year.

“And with his rod he smote the rock twice: and the water came out abundantly, and the congregation drank, and their beasts also. This is the water of Meribah; because the children of Israel strove with the LORD, and he was sanctified in them.” Numbers 20:11 & 13

Israel originally planned to march along the sea-coast [likely Dead Sea] of Edom; then north. Thus Moses sent messengers to Edom petitioning for safe passage.

“And Moses sent messengers from Kadesh unto the king of Edom, Thus saith thy brother Israel, Thou knowest all the travail that hath befallen us. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom” Numbers 20:14 & 23

Israel planned to march directly through lands free from giants, to address Amorites east of the Jordan, ruled by Sihon and Og, and also the Midians. Parts of Edom were free from giants. Horim still lived in Seir, but some Edomites with the help of God previously drove out Horim, as God did for Ammon and Moab.

“The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims; but the Moabites call them Emims. The Horims also dwelt in Seir beforetime; but the children of Esau succeeded them, when they had destroyed them from before them, and dwelt in their stead” Deuteronomy 2:10-12

Edom, however, refused to let Israel pass through their land. Because of this, Israel marched from Kadesh to Mount Hor towards Canaan again, where Aaron died. God proclaimed Aaron would die before entering the Covenant Land because of his insubordination at Meribah.

“Thus Edom refused to give Israel passage through his border: wherefore Israel turned away from him. And the children of Israel, even the whole congregation, journeyed from Kadesh, and came unto mount Hor. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom. And the LORD spake unto Moses and Aaron in mount Hor, by the coast of the land of Edom, saying, Aaron shall be gathered unto his people: for he shall not enter into the land which I have given unto the children of Israel, because ye rebelled against my word at the water of Meribah.” Numbers 20:21-24

Moses appointed Aaron’s son, Eleazor successor to lead the priesthood, whereby Israel mourned Aaron’s death for 30 days before leaving Mount Hor.

“And Moses did as the LORD commanded: and they went up into mount Hor in the sight of all the congregation. And Moses stripped Aaron of his garments, and put them upon Eleazar his son; and Aaron died there in the top of the mount: and Moses and Eleazar came down from the mount. And when all the congregation saw that Aaron was dead, they mourned for Aaron thirty days, even all the house of Israel.” Numbers 20 27-29

Israel returned to the region their spies explored 40 years previous, which begat the “evil report” saying God could not protect them from the giant nations. Israel marched to “the way of the spies”: the way: road: “h1869 Derek” of spies: “h871 Athariym”, where they are met by Canaanite hybrid giants led by King Arad. King Arad marched out with his powerful hybrid army to fight Israel. King Arad seemingly got the better of Israel and taking prisoners in the first battle.

“And when king Arad the Canaanite, which dwelt in the south, heard tell that Israel came by the way of the spies; then he fought against Israel, and took some of them prisoners.” Numbers 21:1

Arad, according to Unger’s Bible Dictionary, was a southern Canaanite city in the Negev. Arad, “h6166” meaning fugitive was a “royal” Canaanite city [of the greater Canaanite alliance] located in the north end of the wilderness. The Negev included Kadesh and Beersheba. The Negev is the “south” country of Canaan recorded in Gen 20 and elsewhere. South derives from “h5045 Negeb. The Negev was the region Abram made his home, and included Shur, home of the Amalaqim Israel defeated in “Battle at Rephidim” 40 years previous.

“And Abraham journeyed from thence toward the south country, and dwelled between Kadesh and Shur, and sojourned in Gerar.” Genesis 20:1

“And Abram journeyed, going on still toward the south.” Genesis 12:9

“Then Abram removed his tent, and came and dwelt in the plain of Mamre, which is in Hebron, and built there an altar unto the LORD.” Genesis 13:18

Hebron, Kiriatharba, the city of Arba of the Anak in Negev between Kadesh and Shur was the same place Sarah, Abraham, and Isaac were buried, all-the-while surrounded by the giants Israel was commissioned to drive out.

“And Sarah died in Kirjatharba; the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan…” Genesis 23:2

And after this, Abraham buried Sarah his wife in the cave of the field of Machpelah before Mamre: the same is Hebron in the land of Canaan.” Genesis 23:19

“And his sons Isaac and Ishmael buried him in the cave of Machpelah, in the field of Ephron the son of Zohar the Hittite, which is before Mamre” Genesis 25:9

“And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned. And the days of Isaac were a hundred and fourscore years. And Isaac gave up the ghost, and died, and was gathered unto his people, being old and full of days: and his sons Esau and Jacob buried him.” Genesis 35:27-29

Arad city was located very close to Hebron, Kiriatharba, positioned just 17 to 20 miles south of Hebron, which would later all become Judah’s territory. Arad dates back to 2900–3200 BC, (antediluvian) is now known as Tell Arad. Similarly, Kiriatharba also dates back 1800 BC and beyond being built before Zoan/Tanis in Egypt and as recorded in the “Year 400 Stela” dated to 1400 BC. Lous Ginzberg noted Sihon’s original name in legend was Arad, a name describing Sihon’s amazing dexterity and quickness. One wonders whether or not Arad conceals that Sihon was a fugitive (before or after the flood) from Arad. Is this why Israel marches next through Ammon and Moab to battle with Sihon, and why Arad was considered royal Canaanite city?

“And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were. (Now Hebron was built seven years before Zoan in Egypt.)” Numbers 13:22

Both Arad and Hebron were Nephilim cities, likely before and after the flood. Kiriatharba was named after Arba, its founder and patriarch for Anakim giants.

“And Jacob came unto Isaac his father unto Mamre, unto the city of Arbah, which is Hebron, where Abraham and Isaac sojourned.” Genesis 35:27

“And the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba; which Arba was a great man among the Anakims.” Joshua 14:15

“And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron.” Joshua 15:13

Anak, “h6061 Anaq” means: [long] necked; a tribe of giants in Canaan. Anakim, “h6062 Anaqiy”: long-necked Canaanite tribe of giants is rooted in “h6061 Anaq”.

“And they ascended by the south, and came unto Hebron; where Ahiman, Sheshai, and Talmai, the children of Anak, were…” Number 13:22

“Nevertheless the people be strong that dwell in the land, and the cities are walled, and very great: and moreover we saw the children of Anak there.” Numbers 13:28

“The Emims dwelt therein in times past, a people great, and many, and tall, as the Anakims; Deut 2:11 Which also were accounted giants, as the Anakims” Deuteronomy 2:10

After the King of Arad’s army roughed up Israel, they recommit their faith in God for military success, vowing to destroy Canaanite cities Arad reigned over.

“And Israel vowed a vow unto the LORD, and said, If thou wilt indeed deliver this people into my hand, then I will utterly destroy their cities. And the LORD hearkened to the voice of Israel, and delivered up the Canaanites; and they utterly destroyed them and their cities: and he called the name of the place Hormah.” Numbers 21:2-3

God delivered the hybrid giant Canaanites of Arad for slaughter into the hands of Israel, whereby Israel destroyed their cities, naming the place of the battle, Hormah, “h2767 Chormah” meaning devotion (to God). Israel does not stay in the Covenant Land. Their faith in God was not yet fully forged. God knows this. Israel departed Mount Hor to travel around Edom and then north through Moab, and Ammon. God’s decision discouraged many still weak in faith.

“And they journeyed from mount Hor by the way of the Red sea, to compass the land of Edom: and the soul of the people was much discouraged because of the way.” Numbers 21:4

Discouragement leads to murmuring against God once more, which leads to the famous fiery serpent incident at Oboth, causing many in Israel to be killed.

“And the people spake against God, and against Moses, Wherefore have ye brought us up out of Egypt to die in the wilderness? for there is no bread, neither is there any water; and our soul loatheth this light bread. And the LORD sent fiery serpents among the people, and they bit the people; and much people of Israel died.” Numbers 21:5-6

After the fiery serpent incident, Israel marched from Oboth to Ijeabarim in the wilderness before Moab, enroute to battle King Sihon of the Amorites.

“And Moses made a serpent of brass, and put it upon a pole, and it came to pass, that if a serpent had bitten any man, when he beheld the serpent of brass, he lived. And the children of Israel set forward, and pitched in Oboth. And they journeyed from Oboth, and pitched at Ijeabarim, in the wilderness which is before Moab, toward the sunrising.” Numbers 21:9-11

Even though Israel slaughtered King Arad, the Anakim with him, and his hybrid Canaanite army, the Anakim were not driven out of the land. Anakim and hybrid Canaanites remained until the reign of the Judges. Caleb was awarded the Kiriatharba and Arad regions by Joshua, at the end of the conquest. This area still overflowed with Anakin giants and giant hybrids. Caleb drove out Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, but did not slay them.

“And Joshua blessed him, and gave unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh Hebron for an inheritance. Hebron therefore became the inheritance of Caleb the son of Jephunneh the Kenezite unto this day” Joshua 14:13-14

“And unto Caleb the son of Jephunneh he gave a part among the children of Judah, according to the commandment of the LORD to Joshua, even the city of Arba the father of Anak, which city is Hebron. And Caleb drove thence the three sons of Anak, Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai, the children of Anak.” Joshua 15:13-14

The 3 infamous giants returned to Kiriatharba again after Caleb, but were finally slain by the warriors of Judah early on during the age of the Judges.

“And Judah went against the Canaanites that dwelt in Hebron: (now the name of Hebron before was Kirjatharba:) and they slew Sheshai, and Ahiman, and Talmai.” Judges 1:10

The descendants of Caleb the Kenite continued the fight against the Canaanite hybrids in the Negev region, which included Kiriatharba, Arad, Zephath and Hormah.

“And the children of the Kenite, Moses’ father in law, went up out of the city of palm trees with the children of Judah into the wilderness of Judah, which lieth in the south of Arad; and they went and dwelt among the people. And Judah went with Simeon his brother, and they slew the Canaanites that inhabited Zephath, and utterly destroyed it. And the name of the city was called Hormah.” Judges 1:16-17

Talmai’s name continued as a title/name for kings amongst the Geshurites, as Agag did for the Amaleqim, and in the same spirit as a Hadad, Pharoah, and Caesar.

“And his second, Chileab, of Abigail the wife of Nabal the Carmelite; and the third, Absalom the son of Maacah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur” 2 Samuel 3:3

“But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day.” 2 Samuel 13:37

“The third, Absalom the son of Maachah the daughter of Talmai king of Geshur: the fourth, Adonijah the son of Haggith” 1 Chronicles 3:2

The Talmai heraldy and trans-generational war between Nephilim and Israel resurfaced with David’s 3rd son Absalom, son of Maacah, daughter of Talmai of Geshur; a trans-generational war later reflected with Haman the Agagite. Absalom slew David’s 1st son, Ammon, for raping his sister Tamar seemingly as part of his plan to usurp power. He then flees to Geshur under Talmai’s protection.

“Now Absalom had commanded his servants, saying, Mark ye now when Amnon’s heart is merry with wine, and when I say unto you, Smite Amnon; then kill him, fear not: have not I commanded you?” 2 Samuel 13:28

“But Absalom fled, and went to Talmai, the son of Ammihud, king of Geshur. And David mourned for his son every day. 2Sam 13:38 So Absalom fled, and went to Geshur, and was there three years.” 2 Samuel 13:37

Absalom returns to Israel 3 years later. He then asks permission, using a cover story, to travel to Hebron/Kiriatharba, city of Talmai in Moses’s time, to fulfil a vow he made in Geshur to worship God in Hebron, if David permitted his return.

“And it came to pass after forty years, that Absalom said unto the king, I pray thee, let me go and pay my vow, which I have vowed unto the LORD, in Hebron. For thy servant vowed a vow while I abode at Geshur in Syria, saying, If the LORD shall bring me again indeed to Jerusalem, then I will serve the LORD. And the king said unto him, Go in peace. So he arose, and went to Hebron.” 2 Samuel 15:7-9

While in Kiriatharba, the ancient home of Talami and the Anak, Absalom declares his rebellion and himself as king reigning from Kiriatharba, which almost succeeded.

“But Absalom sent spies throughout all the tribes of Israel, saying, As soon as ye hear the sound of the trumpet, then ye shall say, Absalom reigneth in Hebron. 2 Samuel 15:10

And there came a messenger to David, saying, The hearts of the men of Israel are after Absalom. And David said unto all his servants that were with him at Jerusalem, Arise, and let us flee; for we shall not else escape from Absalom: make speed to depart, lest he overtake us suddenly, and bring evil upon us, and smite the city with the edge of the sword.” 2 Samuel 15:13-14

Absalom though, is slain, ending the Nephilim sponsored rebellion planned in Geshur. He is finished off by Joab and his attendants after being hung up in a tree.

“And Absalom rode upon a mule, and the mule went under the thick boughs of a great oak, and his head caught hold of the oak” 2 Samuel 18:9

“Then said Joab, I may not tarry thus with thee. And he took three darts in his hand, and thrust them through the heart of Absalom, while he was yet alive in the midst of the oak. And ten young men that bare Joab’s armour compassed about and smote Absalom, and slew him.” 2 Samuel 18:14-15

Geshurites were yet another giant hybrid nation. They were documented living along side the Philistines, and thus Avvim, in Joshua, and amongst the Gezrites and Amalekim in Shur. Geshurites were list with Amalakim and the Gerzites as the old inhabitants of Shur. Old derives from “h5769 Owlam” meaning: time out of mind, eternity, ancient, and beginning of the world. Geshurites were seemingly another Rephaim/Nephilim tribe created before or after the flood in Shur, which is part of their name.

“And David and his men went up, and invaded the Geshurites, and the Gezrites, and the Amalekites: for those nations were of old the inhabitants of the land, as thou goest to Shur, even unto the land of Egypt.” 1 Samuel 27:8

Geshurites, additionally dwelled in Bashan where Mount Hermon, Rephaim, and King Og lived, along with the Maachathites, noting Geshurites and Maachathites survived to live amongst the Israelites. Geshurite/Geshuri derives from “h1651 Gshuwriy”: inhabitants of Geshur,” and is rooted in “h1650 Gshuwr”: “proud beholder”, just as Nephilim were proud. Girzites, “h1511 Gizriy” meaning a piece, cut off and rooted in “h1511 Gizriy”: portion, were also listed in the Shur with Geshurites and both are unaccounted for in the Table of Nations in Gen 10 and 1 Chron.

“Jair the son of Manasseh took all the country of Argob unto the coasts of Geshuri and Maachathi; and called them after his own name, Bashanhavothjair, unto this day.” Deuteronomy 3:14

“And reigned in mount Hermon, and in Salcah, and in all Bashan, unto the border of the Geshurites and the Maachathites, and half Gilead, the border of Sihon king of Heshbon.” Joshua 12:5

And all the cities of Sihon king of the Amorites, which reigned in Heshbon, unto the border of the children of Ammon; And Gilead, and the border of the Geshurites and Maachathites, and all mount Hermon, and all Bashan unto Salcah; All the kingdom of Og in Bashan, which reigned in Ashtaroth and in Edrei, who remained of the remnant of the giants: for these did Moses smite, and cast them out. Nevertheless the children of Israel expelled not the Geshurites, nor the Maachathites: but the Geshurites and the Maachathites dwell among the Israelites until this day. Joshua 13:10-13
